Whistler Blackcomb BC
Whistler is huge! We didn’t get to see even a third of it in the limited time we were there and would definitely go back for another look. It is on a totally different scale in terms of access and infrastructure to the other resorts we went to, it is also much, much busier. You couldn’t do a tour of Canadian ski resorts and not visit it though.
Whistler’s Lifts
The lift system is easily the best of any resort we went too. lots of modern fast lifts and multi person chairlifts. The peak to peak gondola is an experience in itself.
Whistler’s Best Runs
We were only in Whistler for a week and spent our ski time with friends who live there. We skied their favourite runs on Whistler mostly, so we don’t have a great idea of what is out there. We also spent a good chunk of time partying and not on the slopes. When skiing we spent the majority of time on Whistler only briefly going to Blackcomb. You don’t spend as much time working out where you are when there are other people guiding!
Memorable runs were Couloir and West Cirque, both had great snow and not many people through them.
There are so many parts to both hills that it would take a long time to ski them all.
Whistler’s Snow
It had snowed lots the week before we got there and overnight most nights we were there (end of March 2016). The snow was a lot wetter than what we found at the interior resorts but a lot easier to ski than the snow we had at Red. The biggest dump was 16cm when we were there, would love to go back for a proper big pow day.
Whistler’s Food
There are more options at Whistler than anywhere else, numerous places of pretty much every style of food. We didn’t actually go to many, only going out for breakfast. Caesars are ace! It is more expensive than elsewhere but there seems to be food for all budgets.
Whistler’s Accommodation
We stayed at a friends apartment so no idea where is good, there are a lot of options though.
Whistler Review
We can’t really give Whistler a fair review as our experience of it was so different from the other places we went to. There is a crazy amount of terrain, some of it very gnarly and it really does have something for everyone.
It is way busier than the other resorts we visited, its a lot more like a French resort in how busy it is, in most other Canadian resorts you tend to have the whole slope to yourself. It is also a lot more expensive, with a half day ticket costing more than any other resorts full day ticket. If you enjoy Apre along with your slope days then it has the best nightlife of all the resorts by far.
It sort of feels like the disneyland of ski resorts in its size, town style and crowds. We just preferred the grittier laid back and off the grid vibe of the other resorts we went to. In saying that though, we would most definitely go back
