NAC Otoe Powdercats

Nac Otoe Powdercats, Hokaido, Japan

Cat skiing in Hokkaido, Japan, the land of deep powder. NAC picked us up in Furano and drove us by bus to their tenure at Otoe, a former ski resort. The journey took around an hour and half to get (through the most beautiful snowy landscapes). We were the first group of the season and there were only 4 of us on the tour.
Quite simply the best day of skiing we have ever had!

NAC Catski Lifts
The cat was actually really comfy. It had car style seats that all face forward and plenty of room. There was lots of new snow on the cat tracks which meant that it was a bumpy ride but it all just added to the fun. The cabin isn't heated but warms up when there are bodies inside.

NAC Catski Snow
The best snow we have skiied anywhere. So deep and so light. Just incredible. We were the first group of the season so the runs hadn't been touched at all. Japow in full flow.

NAC Catski Best runs
The runs were all through the trees and avoided the ski resorts former runs (these would be too gentle to ski with the amount of snow that is there). They were pretty varied and although never too extreme, they were all incredibly fun. We skied a mixture of Heart field, Yume Sawa, old lift line,  Yoshi o Sawa, Disney land and boot packed up to the summit. Some great pitches and lots of whooping

NAC Catski Equipment
We were all provided with avi beacons and given a lesson on how to use them. Otherwise equipment was all our own. Take some wide skis because it gets deep, really deep.

NAC Catski Cost
We paid £290 (42000yen) a person for the day which includes transport and a really nice Bento Box lunch in the local onsen. That is slightly less expensive than Canada and slightly more than the USA. You would have to be incredibly lucky to get snow that is anything like what we had at NAC in either of those countries though. It was definitely worth what we paid.

NAC Catski Overall
We had a truly brilliant day at NAC Otoe. The guides Hans and Sam were really encouraging and in full control of the day. Both were good fun and kept the stoke levels high. If skiing dream like untouched snow on empty slopes is your thing then this is the perfect day out for you. The worst thing about it, is that forever more every ski day will judged in comparison to this one and I'm not sure it will ever be beaten!
